About This Treatment

Root canal treatment removes infected or inflamed pulp tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and disinfects the inner canals, and seals the space to prevent further infection — saving a tooth that would otherwise need extraction. Dr. Parthasarathy, our consultant endodontist, uses modern techniques and, where appropriate, magnification to ensure thorough, comfortable treatment with a strong success rate.

How the Treatment Process Works

1

Diagnosis & X-ray

The affected tooth is examined and X-rayed to assess the extent of infection and canal anatomy.

2

Local Anesthesia

The tooth and surrounding area are fully numbed for a comfortable procedure.

3

Cleaning the Canals

Infected pulp tissue is removed and the root canals are carefully cleaned and shaped.

4

Disinfection

The canals are disinfected to eliminate remaining bacteria.

5

Filling & Sealing

The cleaned canals are filled with a biocompatible material and sealed.

6

Crown Placement

A crown is often recommended afterward to protect and strengthen the treated tooth.

Benefits

  • Saves your natural tooth instead of requiring extraction
  • Relieves pain caused by infected or inflamed pulp
  • Prevents infection from spreading to surrounding tissue and bone
  • Restores normal biting and chewing function
  • High long-term success rate with proper aftercare

Things to Consider

  • Mild tenderness for a few days after treatment is normal
  • A crown is often needed afterward for long-term strength
  • Multiple visits may be required for more complex cases
Myths vs Facts

Separating Fact From Fiction

Myth: Root canal treatment is extremely painful.

Fact: Modern techniques and effective anesthesia make root canal treatment about as comfortable as getting a filling.

Myth: It's better to just extract the tooth.

Fact: Saving your natural tooth with a root canal is generally better for long-term chewing function and jawbone health.

Myth: Root canal treatment causes illness elsewhere in the body.

Fact: This claim is not supported by modern dental or medical research — root canal treatment is a safe, well-established procedure.

Root Canal Treatment — Frequently Asked Questions

No — with modern anesthesia techniques, the procedure itself is comfortable. Mild soreness afterward is normal and temporary.

Many cases are completed in one to two visits, depending on the tooth and extent of infection.

In most cases, yes — a crown protects the treated tooth from fracture and restores full chewing strength.

Common signs include persistent tooth pain, sensitivity to hot/cold that lingers, swelling, or a darkened tooth. A dental exam and X-ray confirm the diagnosis.
